The Fundación Séneca, Centro de Coordinación de la Investigación (Research Coordination Center) was created by the Regional Administration of Murcia in 1996 to promote scientific research and the development of technology and knowledge.

The research coordination is carried out at two levels: the Fundación Séneca manages research initiatives of Regional Ministeries and, as far as possible, it complements national and European funds for research.

The managerial board of the Fundación Séneca consists of highly placed office-holders of the Regional Administration.

The Fundación Séneca manages an Annual Programme that offers financial support for:

  • Research training and other postgraduate studies
  • Research projects
  • Programmes for visiting scientists and local scientists staying outside of Murcia, and for organizing and attending meetings
  • The dissemination of science.

The Annual Programme also includes collaborations with other organizations with the aim of promoting scientific culture and extracurricular training of students.

The management unit of the RITTS project "MURCIA INNOVA" forms an integral part of the Fundación Séneca. This project is cofinanced by the Regional Government and the European Union, and will lead to the "First Innovation Plan of the Region of Murcia"
